Robert G. Gerlach is a Pennsylvania Dept. of Health certified Paramedic
and EMS Instructor. Bob is also a PA State
Fire Academy Local Level (Non-Suppression) Instructor and an American
Heart Assoc. CPR Instructor. Robert holds NPQS Pro-Board
certifications as a Firefighter I and Fire Service Instructor I.
Mr. Gerlach has over 15 years public safety experience in multiple
disciplines.
About Robert Gerlach:
Bob was introduced to public safety employed as a
Metal Detector Operator at Kennywood Park in 1994. During that
summer Bob completed his Act 235 (Lethal Weapons) Certification.
In 1995 Robert was hired as a Police Services Officer for Kennywood
Park and attended EMT Classes.
Mr. Gerlach also started volunteering as an EMT
with Baldwin EMS in 1995. In December of 1996 Bob started
volunteering with the Option Independent Fire Company in Baldwin
Borough and completed his Fire Academy training in 1997. In 1999
Robert left the Option Ind. Fire Co. and became a volunteer with the
Pleasant Hills Volunteer Fire Company. In 2001, Bob successfully
attained NPQS certification as a Firefighter I.
In the winter of 1996, Bob became employed as a
Communications Specialist at MercyTACC until 1998 when he was offered a
full-time EMT position at Baldwin EMS. That fall
Robert started attending Paramedic Classes graduating in the Spring of
1999. Robert then was promoted to a Paramedic at Baldwin EMS
which he held until 2003 due to a change in residency.
Since moving to Indiana County PA, Bob changed
primary employment to TransCare PA, Inc. in April of 2003. Late
summer 2005, Robert was chosen to become part of an EMS Strike Team
deployed by TransCare to assist in the Hurricane Katrina efforts.
Moving also changed fire department
affiliations. In August 2003 Robert joined the Clymer Vol. Fire
Company and has held to positions of Lieutenant, Captain, Training
Officer, Secretary, President, and Board of Director. In November
Bob became a member of Indiana County Team 900 which is the countywide
hazardous materials, technical rescue and rapid intervention
team. Mr. Gerlach also became affiliated with the Indiana County
Fire Training Academy and the Indiana Univ. of PA Division of Emergency
Services Training.
During November 2006 Robert became employed
(part-time) as a paramedic with the Parkview
VFD/EMS and is also the Training Coordinator preparing and delivering
monthly EMS Con-Ed Training.
2008 brought another change in residency and in
fire department membership. While still employed at TransCare and
Parkview VFD/EMS, Mr. Gerlach became a volunteer firefighter with the
City of Greensburg Fire Department at Company 7. He also joined
the Westmoreland County Hazardous Materials Response Team in the Summer
of 2009.
